Habitat Faith Build UPDATE AS OF JUNE 13, 2023 from Rachel Kennon, Development Director:
The Faith Build 2023 home is being framed today and we are so excited to see progress for the Ford Family!
We have raised $64,500 towards this project (Go God!) to-date and we are still need the remaining $35,500 to finish this house. If your church wants to make a commitment to this project, please reach out to Rachel Kennon, fddirector@habitatmb.org . I would be happy to answer any questions and get your church body plugged in!
In addition to new home construction, Habitat has recently launched into maintenance and repair in an effort to serve more families as the need for safe, affordable housing grows stronger every day. With that, we are in need of skilled volunteers who can assist our maintenance and repair staff. We are currently doing projects in Myrtle Beach, but will eventually start serving the entire county.
We would be so appreciative if you would pass this need along to your church bodies for anyone interested in serving as one of our core volunteers for maintenance and repair projects. Please have them reach out to me if interested.
Thank you all for your continued support, and let’s finish this house for the Ford Family together!

In 2021, Project AGAPE received a grant to build a new warehouse at the AGAPE Center to expand the small warehouse area for distributing humanitarian assistance to displaced families from the war. Construction was started and has supported the establishment of the new hub in the town of Vayk in the Vayots Dzor region of Armenia. The hub enables the AGAPE staff to help displaced people in need by creating storage space of humanitarian aid impacting twelve thousand displaced individuals. The warehouse makes it possible to sort the goods efficiently in order to provide needs for the families.
In 30 years since 1993, over 60 VIM teams have visited Armenia and Artsakh to work on different projects and assist the refugee community of the Kashatagh region eliminating the consequences of the first Karabagh war of 1988-1994, changing their lives. Project AGAPE is a force that has helped transform not only people’s lives in the country of Armenia and Artsakh but also many persons’ lives in the UM churches in NC, helping to keep the connectional spirit alive that John Wesley started over 200 years ago. Through this project, small and large churches have come together to make a difference in the lives of people in the oldest Christian nation of the world. Here, we can bring hope to displaced families struggling to find hope. A 2022 grant received from MPUMC Wesley Foundation assisted in building the second floor over the warehouse, expanding the existing building, and providing more space to accommodate visiting mission teams from NC. Each room has a bathroom/restroom and convenient accommodation for team members. The rooms are ready now to host the first Young Clergy Pilgrimage Team. |
ZOE EMPOWERS UPDATE AS OF JUNE 2023 | Empowering Vulnerable Children Beyond Charity
Zoe Staff Take Innovative Step To Recruit Those Most In Need by Mwambia Mercy Kendi, Zoe Kenya Communications Facilitator
The news that the Zoe Empowers Kenya program can recruit a new class of youth into the program is always met with a lot of excitement among the team. Quickly, the mapping process starts to determine which communities are best suited for the program. Click here to read the full report.
A message from Laura Nemecek, Communications Director, Zoe Empowers:
A little over three years ago, Zoe Empowers Kenya staff members gathered together a group of orphaned and vulnerable children who were entrenched in extreme poverty. These young people had little hope that things could improve, but you all at First Myrtle Beach knew that they deserved better and led by God you stepped out in faith to provide resources and prayers so they could realize a different future. It worked!
The support you provided empowered the youth to establish businesses and become food secure. You helped ensure that the children had adequate housing, access to medical care, returned to school, and had opportunities to experience God's love. This group has completed Zoe’s three-year empowerment program and are ready to continue creating a brighter future for their families and their community. The detailed graduation report is attached.
Now you are giving this same life changing opportunity to another group of children as you begin an additional three year partnership. The name list and picture for this group are also attached.
All of us - Zoe staff, children, and the communities in which they live - are grateful for your support.
